GOLDEN RULES on interacting with phone scammer or spammer
Learn how to behave when a scammer calls or texts you.
1 - NEVER say YES to an unknown caller!
If you say YES over the phone, they can exploit your consent for an online agreement!
It may be as simple as this example:
- Caller: Hello is it Anna speaking?
- ANNA: YES, who is asking?
- Caller: HANG UP!
After a couple of days you may get an invoice or signed agreement to your mailbox.
What should you remember?
- IT ONLY TAKES ONE YES, AND YOU CAN LOSE YOUR MONEY!
2 - NEVER share any personal info via the phone call
Scammers often pretend to be government organizations or well-known brands! They want to verify or update your profile, send you some samples, etc...
What should you remember?
- NO GENUINE COMPANIES WANT TO CHECK YOUR PASSWORD - NEVER SHARE YOUR PASSWORDS!
- THE GOVERNMENT NEVER VERIFY ANY OF YOUR INFO OVER THE CALL. FIRST, THEY WILL CONTACT YOU BY MAIL!
- KEEP ALL YOUR DETAILS SAFE AND DO NOT TELL THEM TO UNKNOWN CALLERS!
3 - NEVER click any link in the text messages or emails
In the first place: Why would you even do that?
Links in text messages from unknown phone numbers are 99.99 % malicious links!
You are sent to a spam website after you click on the link! On this website, they may want you to fill in your info or log in to your bank or another service you are using. The worst case scenario is virus installed on your computer, and it is a BIG problem!
What should you remember?
- YOUR BANK, AND ALL GENUINE COMPANIES, WILL NEVER SEND YOU AN EMAIL OR TEXT WITH A LINK TO UPDATE YOUR PROFILE, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD, ETC..!
- ALWAYS CHECK THE URL BEFORE YOU CLICK ON THE LINK OR IN THE BROWSER ADDRESS BAR AFTER YOU CLICKED IT!
- IF IT DOES NOT MATCH WITH YOUR BANK OR THE COMPANY URL, LEAVE THIS SITE IMMEDIATELY!
- NEVER CALL THAT PHONE NUMBER BACK!
